Festivals to look forward to

I had a nice, relaxed day. I’ve been watching ‘Heroes’ while tinkering around on the net and editing old cartoons. I’m still trying to work out what to have ready by Armageddon. Here’s some arty deadlines for those who are interested:

Armageddon Pop Culture Expo: April 19-20th
Affordable Arts Show: July 31-August 3rd (registration closes May 1st)
Handle The Jandal Music Video awards: September (entries close June)

Dammit! I just found out the Fringe Film Festival isn’t running anymore! I hope there’s going to be a substitute, it’s already hard enough to get short films shown in Wellywood’s self-regarding environment. Straight to YouTube I go.

  1. I hate the ‘flu. I wrote a response to this, my connection fell over, and now I can’t remember half of what I wrote… ‘cos it didn’t post, and I can’t retrieve it!

Horrible Welli film industry, canning Short Film Fest just after celebrating 20th Anniversary last year.

And right as the Film School’s wildly successful undergrad production papers are about to be axed, if VUWSA & the FHSS change board can’t stop it – protest/discussion Weds 12 noon, Memorial Theatre, VUW.

I’m tired of pointing out all the things that stopped me from working in Film; but the two examples above are typical.
Just shut out anyone younger and less experienced, seems to be the tactic right now. Fools!

There was more to my previous rant, but I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead, and go look for breakfast, whatever I can stomach right now. ;-)

  2. If 90% of the people studying film in Wellington intending to get a job in the industry stopped right now and did something else, they’d be saving themselves a lot of time, money and heartbreak.

  3. Ahh, but most of them just want to make ad’s or music videos – which we churn out at a revoltingly high rate…

Not that any of the ones you’ve done were revolting, of course. Revolving, or revolutionary, maybe…

I can’t believe I was stressed enough not to hang onto a copy of Cherry’s DVD long enough to rip the 2-and-a-half minute episode onto my laptop.
Although after nearly 2 weeks of travelling with it & playing it every night, maybe I’ve had enough of it anyway.

I’d rather have a copy of Bloc d’Auteur to remember 2007 by. If at all possible… And a rough of SHBFH would be very nice. At least 2 people in my blood kin would be thrilled if I acquired that! :-)

  4. Back to Festivals: just got a copy of the Comedy Fest Programme yesterday.

    My Picks:
Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Living the Dream, at Bodega
Ewen Gilmour, Yeehaa! at San Fran (I like a bit of Westie..)
Heavenly Burlesque, The Untamed Oddities Tour (& not just ‘cos Eva is getting me to dress her film! I was too sick to see their last show…), at the Paramount.
Mrs Peacock, Six Feet From The Edge, at Bats.

    And some new to me;
Funk Rabbit – well, that name just has to be checked out! They’re at Bats, & they’re Canadians.
The Lady Bunch – errm, well not so much new, as newly arranged. I enjoy Michelle A’Court, prolly in an inverse ratio to how much I dislike Mike Smith, her ex. They’re at Bats, too

Anyone keen to volunteer to accompany me? Warning, I LOL a lot…
    :-D
