Best day ever?
A very good contender for Best Day Ever.
This, of course, is me with Garry Trudeau, the reclusive author of Doonesbury. I am getting him to sign a copy of the first Doonesbury anthology from 1975. Photo by the resourceful Kerry.
The audience for his talk was strikingly old. I must’ve been one of about 20 people in the nearly-full Embassy under the age of 50. The talk was interesting if not fascinating (not enough Q & A), but it was a genuine buzz to meet him. I also picked up some books which were inexpensive, if not cheap… about $10 less each than they would cost from Borders.
As for the rest of the day, I went to a party hosted by some friends of mine who are drunken* half-naked** strippers***.
Boo, and indeed, yah.
The highlight of my day, apart from meeting one of my personal heroes, was having an extraordinary woman proudly quote one of my cartoons at length without realising that I’d written it.
“Oh” I said. “I think that’s one of mine.”

Nice to see you doing a strip in Salient again, too.

I’m glad you liked the photo! Have to say, I rather like it meself… Trudeau does have a rather cheeky, likeable grin, doesn’t he?
Oh, I didn’t realise you went back to that party!
Hope Rach made it onto her plane…
I just went from Trudeau to Salient (sublime to ridiculous indeed…) sub-editing Jackson’s wildly variable prose. Then home to try to unwind with images of dangling participles and floating adjectival phrases jangling in my head. A couple of hours of clearing my mailbox fixed that… mundanity solving insomnia once again.

Great – Morgue links me on the one day it’s all about the bewbies.

I think Unity sell the books for Readers and Writers Week. I’m sure they did last year when Joe Sacco was in town.
Hmm… no mention of Trudeau in Jitterati this week… that’s a rather anomalous omission, isn’t it?

I’m trying to be less self-indulgent this year.
HA! HAHA HAAA!!
Besides, it’s up to the DomPost to promote their own frickin’ cartoonist.

Well, at least this year there’s more of your content out in the public domain to be self-indulgent about…
Yep, DT, there’s a big Unity sales table in the Embassy foyer, staffed on the day by my least fav ex-WRO.( and that’s saying a lot, there’s some serious contenders in that field…)
I grabbed a flyer of adverts for W&R product, which had the gall to whine about the lack of space in the store-room due to avalanches of new stock to sell around the writers’ performances. Sheesh!

Hey, at least I didn’t *mention* the boobies in my post. Probably would have been more cross-traffic if I had… I guess it all adds to your status as man-about-town, so to speak.
(Seems our social circles have completely separated – we haven’t been at a party together for about a decade, have we? I didn’t even think that was *possible* in Wellington.)

I haven’t been avoiding you!
