It has been said by people who know better than me that two things in life are recession proof – alcohol and chocolate. It’s therefore somewhat disheartening to see Cadbury have repackaged their king-size chocolate bars* in nifty little cardboard sleeves and subtly reduced them from 235-250g to 190-220g. The good times are over. Some stores are in the middle of this transition, so it’s possible to compare the old and the new side by side. And then shout “WHYYYY?!!”
I’m not usually the sort of person who watches the technology instead of the content, but the new HD Simpsons is something of a revelation. The first episode was full of detailed little background jokes undetectable at normal PAL resolution, and visually it made the following Family Guy episode look like a big sack of crap. Now if only they could do something about the quality of the writing…
I was in Karori today, which is the only Wellington suburb apart from Johnsonville where people stare at you with a vacant open-mouthed bovine expression. There’s nothing malicious about it, but it’s disconcerting as hell.
Later I attended CatFest, the benefit for Vic Uni’s library cat. One of the spot prizes was awarded to whoever told the best cat joke. I couldn’t think of any at the time, but on the way home I came up with:
