I went on a moderately epic walk through Wellington yesterday, and saw many fine examples of the work of BMD, including stencils, pasteups, stickers and good old fashioned tagging – the only thing which wasn’t actually cool, because it mostly involved private property. On a lamppost outside the east entrance of the Mt Vic tunnel there’s still a tiny orange sticker by Neonate, who used to paint the coolest squiggly cartoon characters everywhere. Strange what survives, years after everything else has been painted over.
I was in the Kilbirnie Pak N’ Save, which seems to be a good indicator of economic conditions. There’s still so much bottled water on sale! It’s not flavoured or carbonated or mineral or anything – the only thing that distinguishes it from tap water is that it’s been filtered and bottled.
