A crashed Pontiac. A drunk man in a forest. A mystery with a series of clues. It’s possible to flick through this book in just a few minutes as though it were a short experimental film, but you’re obviously supposed to linger over this unusually thoughtful work.
The art combines blacks and greys with a single flat blue which gives it surprising visual depth. There’s a lot of observation, reflection and silent moments in this story, and if it requires more effort than usual to follow, that is surely not a bad thing.
