Consumer report

I’m not particularly impressed with JB Hi-Fi. Like most of Wellington’s surviving music stores they have an in-store Top 20, with content and prices dictated weekly by head office. Like the Warehouse, their bestsellers are a lot cheaper ($21 instead of $25-34 for singles, $27 instead of  $30-$50 for doubles). I was hunting for some Beatles CDs, and they had two in their Top 20 display, but they were the only ones that were still full price! I asked them why, and they said that the new Beatles CDs were selling so well, they were “making an exception”.

When the last music store closes down, this is one reason why they won’t be missed.
