An unusual holiday

Auckland’s public transport is actually pretty good, considering what a sprawling godforsaken tarmac nightmare the city is. The buses are efficient and quiet in comparison to their ear-splitting Wellington counterparts, and the bus stops give you an electronic ETA countdown, a system which I understand is soon to be introduced here. Rush hour on a Friday night doesn’t automatically mean gridlock. A porky IT operative coughed at the back of my head for half an hour, but it could’ve been a lot worse.

I spent a lot of time with the lovely family we were staying with, which reinforced the amount of organisation skills it takes to deal with children, neighbours and dogs. Instructional but exhausting.
