Tales Designed to Thrizzle
by Michael Kupperman
Fantagraphics Books, 2009

An extremely bloody funny parody of any 1950s-type ‘Tales’ comic magazine, complete with ads for Foreplayo, the Amazing Foreplay Robot of 1,000 Uses, and a very serious company named Toilet Whore.

Wait, wait! It’s actually quite good! Especially if you like the rather stiff Glen Baxteresque drawing style and a wide selection of absurdist characters, who are given throwaway introductions only to appear issues later as a punchline. See! ’70s TV cops Twain and Einstein! Johnny Silhouette, the crimefighter who gets confused if too many of his foes overlap at once! Pagus, the Thundercats-like half-brother of Jesus, who urges people to celebrate the pagan holiday of Easter! A selection of porno colouring books from the late ’60s!

Wait, wait!
