Wellington Zinefest, again

Another year, another afternoon at Mighty Mighty in the unforgiving light of day. I had to leave soon after delivering a few copies of the Jitterati book – the atmosphere was extraordinarily unpleasant. The young people selling handmade zines, T-shirts and CDs  are undoubtedly sincere about what they do, but most of them take themselves incredibly seriously, and are not that good at dealing with the rejection of strangers walking past their table without buying anything. Cartoonists, of course, are used to this, and are more relaxed, so many envious glances were cast at the tables covered in comics, because we were actually attracting people.

After leaving, I spent a pleasant afternoon in cafes and the art gallery with intelligent people with good conversational skills.
