Isle of 100,000 Graves by Vehlmann & Jason

Isle of 100,000 Graves
by Fabian Vehlmann & Jason
Fantagraphics, 2011

Another typically excellent book by Jason, this time written by Vehlmann, who brings a great deal of black humour to the story. While searching for her father, young Gwenny discovers an island containing a school for executioners who take their practical exams a bit too seriously. The glum bureaucracy of the school provides some of the funniest parts of the book.

Pirates, academia, dog-headed anthropomorphized characters… it couldn’t be anyone else apart from Jason, really.
